Welcome to the Children First Federation
Welcome to the Children First Federation a family of schools whose aim is to work together to develop Outstanding schools that provide the very best opportunities for all our children. We aim for excellence in all we do and to offer the breadth of experience that will provide our children with the personal qualities, skills and knowledge they need to lead successful and happy lives.
The Children First Federation was formed in May 2010, consisting of Hemyock, Wilcombe and Sampford Peverell C of E primaries. Sidbury C of E Primary School joined us in November 2011 and Woodwater Academy in January 2013. We have a “schools within school” philosophy that ensures we all work very closely together in ensuring the achievement of the highest standards in all four schools whilst maintaining the individuality and autonomy of the individual schools.
The Federation has a single Governing Body of fifteen with each stakeholder representative having a specific strategic role. Within the Governing Body there are 5 Portfolios with fully delegated powers. The Children First Federation Governance structure, role and responsibilities are recognised as innovative examples of best practice both nationally and regionally.
The Federation Leadership team consists of an Executive Headteacher who is accountable to all five schools and the Federation Governing Body. Each school is led on a day to day basis by their own Heads of Teaching and Learning. The Heads of Teaching and Learning are the local leaders in their respective schools and their central focus is to ensure that the teaching children receive and the learning children achieve is of the very highest standard. Our model of profoundly integrated working enables us to employ full time Safeguarding and SEN leads, Business Managers and HLTA’s who work directly across all four schools.
Our Federation provides excellent opportunities for teachers and other staff to develop their professional expertise which directly impacts on the quality of teaching and learning for the children. Staff are able to share their best practice within a professional learning community developing an exciting and innovative curriculum for all our children.
On the 1st November 2012 all schools in our federation became Academies and formed part of the Primary Academies Trust. The Trust is an innovative model and is the first of it’s kind. We are part of a multi academy chain of 12 primary schools across Devon. These include the First Federation, Orchard Vale Primary and South Brent Primary. Being part of the PAT further increases our capacity to share best practise, specialisms and work in a collaborative way to provide high quality learning for all our children. Please see our policies section for all related documents.
All of our work and development is driven by making each of our schools exciting, vibrant, learning organisations which put children first.
