Welcome to the Children First Federation

Welcome to the Children First Federation a family of schools whose aim is to work together to develop Outstanding schools that provide the very best opportunities for all our children. We aim for excellence in all we do and to offer the breadth of experience that will provide our children with the personal qualities, skills and knowledge they need to lead successful and happy lives.

The Children First Federation was formed in March 2010. The Children First Federation consists of Hemyock, Wilcombe, Sampford Peverell C of E  primary,  Sidbury C of E Primary School joining us in November 2011. We have a “schools within school” philosophy that ensures we all work very closely together in ensuring the achievement of the highest standards in all four schools whilst maintaining the individuality and autonomy of the individual schools.

The Federation has a single Governing Body of fifteen with each stakeholder representative having a specific strategic role. Within the Governing Body there are 5 Portfolios with fully delegated powers. The Children First Federation Governance structure, role and responsibilities are recognised as innovative examples of best practice both nationally and regionally.

The Federation Leadership team consists of an Executive Headteacher who is accountable to all four schools and the Federation Governing Body. Each school is led on a day to day basis by their own Heads of Teaching and Learning. The Heads of Teaching and Learning are the local leaders in their respective schools and their central focus is to ensure that the teaching children receive and the learning children achieve is of the very highest standard. Our model of profoundly integrated working enables us to employ full time Safeguarding and SEN leads, Business Managers and HLTA’s who work directly across all three schools.

Our Federation provides excellent opportunities for teachers and other staff to develop their professional expertise which directly impacts on the quality of teaching and learning for the children. Staff are able to share their best practice within a professional learning community developing an exciting and innovative curriculum for all our children.

All of our work and development is driven by making each of our schools exciting, vibrant, learning organisations which put children first.
